Visual Effects and Sound Divisions Are Recognized

A new year means awards season in the entertainment world, and Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), and Skywalker Sound are celebrating a batch of nominations from across the industry.

The visual effects team at ILM has earned three (out of five) British Film Academy (BAFTA) nominations in the Special Visual Effects category for Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Ready Player One.

The Visual Effects Society (VES) handed out a remarkable 17 nominations in eight categories to ILM for their annual presentation. This includes two nominations for Outstanding Visual Effects (Ready Player One and Solo: A Star Wars Story) and two nominations for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects (12 Strong and Birdbox). Additionally, ILM swept the VES Outstanding Created Environment in a Photoreal Feature category with all four nominations in the category for their work on Ant-Man & the Wasp, Aquaman, Ready Player One and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

And most recently, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences granted three Oscar Nominations to ILM in the Best Visual Effects Category for Ready Player One and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Skywalker Sound also garnered their own Oscar nominations this year in two categories for Black Panther, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) granted nominations to Skywalker Sound’s team in the Short Form Animation (Star Wars Rebels) and Special Venue (Wreck it Ralph: Ralph Breaks VR) categories for their 66th Annual Golden Reel Awards.

The Cinema Audio Society (CAS) have also honored Skywalker Sound with nominations for both live action (Black Panther) and animated features (Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and The Grinch) as well as documentary (Won’t You Be My Neighbor).

It’s one of our favorite times of year when our world-class team is recognized by their peers.

And the award goes to…
