Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War

The Tuskegee Airmen Tell Their Story

As a companion to the action-adventure Red Tails (2012), Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War is a feature-length documentary that tells the full story of the Tuskegee Airmen’s experiences during World War II. With rare archival materials and original interviews with veterans, the film originally debuted on television and is now freely available as part of Lucasfilm’s educational efforts.

Made by Lucasfilm’s documentary team, Double Victory was produced and written by Jennifer Petrucelli with associate producer Summer Wilson, senior producers Sharon Wood and David Schneider, and editor Joe De Francesco.

The Story

As World War II threatened the United States, young African-Americans took a new opportunity to become military pilots. From their training in Tuskegee, Alabama and combat missions over Africa and Europe, to the continued fight for equality at home, Double Victory is the story of the Tuskegee Airmen in their own words.

It was a time in history that we should be very proud of. It’s a time in history when we helped change the world. And I think we set the star very, very high for anybody who’s following us.
