Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. announced today that it has hired Christian ("Chris") Kubsch, a production and animation executive with over 20 years of experience, to helm its animation studio in Singapore. As General Manager of Lucasfilm Animation Company Singapore B.V., Kubsch will pull together and oversee all elements of the digital animation studio, including recruiting key talent and running its day to day operations. Kubsch will report to Gail Currey, Head of Animation.
"Chris is already in Singapore pulling together an amazing team, so he has really hit the ground running," said Currey. "We were very fortunate to find someone who is both passionate and infinitely capable of handling the enormous task of building and running our Singapore studio."
Kubsch has produced major animated feature films, as well as visual effects and character animation for dozens of live action pictures. He has lived in both Europe and Asia, and has produced and executive produced large format films for World Expos and Special Venue Attractions.
Prior to joining Lucasfilm Animation Singapore, Kubsch served as Production Executive for DreamWorks Animation, where he joined the production team for Over the Hedge, a digitally animated feature film starring Jim Carrey and Garry Shandling. He joined DreamWorks after producing the visual effects for Chris Columbus' Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets. Previously he served as VFX consultant to Warner Brothers' Feature Post division for Matrix Revolutions and Matrix Reloaded. Among several additional feature film projects, Kubsch also contributed to Spawn, Mars Attacks!, Titanic and The Mask.
Kubsch began his career with Universal Studios Hollywood, where he worked on several of the theme park's film based attractions, including 2010 and Star Trek. In 1990, Landmark Entertainment recruited Kubsch to produce special venue film attractions for Sanrio Corporation in Tokyo and Oita (Kyushu), Japan. In 1992, Kubsch was asked to join MCA's Japan division to oversee the development of several classified projects. He served as project director during concept development of the Terminator 2/3D and Jurassic Park Attractions for Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida.
A native of West-Berlin, Germany, Kubsch graduated from John F. Kennedy International School prior to studying film and theater production at New York's Long Island University.
